Turcan Cazac Managing Partner to Serve Four Years on Moldovan Bar Board

The General Meeting of the Chisinau District Bar, the largest of five district bar associations of the Republic of Moldova, has elected Alexander Turcan, the managing partner of the Turcan Cazac law firm, to be one of its seven delegate members on the Board of the Moldovan Bar Association.

The Board of the Moldovan Bar consists of the President of the Moldovan Bar, the deans of the five district bars (Chisinau, Balti, Bender, Cahul and Comrat), seven delegates of the Chisinau District Bar and one delegate of the Balti District Bar.  According to the recently adopted Rules (Statute) of the Legal Profession, the number of delegates to the Board from the five district bar associations is determined according to the ratio of one delegate per 200 advocates registered in the respective district bar.

Alexander Turcan: “It is without question a matter of honor to be elected by your fellow advocates to serve on the Board of the largest professional association of Moldova. I realize that those who have supported my election expect that I contribute my time and experience to the modernization and reform of the Moldovan legal profession. The Moldovan Bar currently numbers about 3,000 lawyers and membership is growing like never before. Direct involvement in the management of growth of an army of ambitious and free-minded legal professionals is an extremely challenging and responsible commitment.”

Octavian Cazac: “This appointment is merely a de jure recognition of Alexander’s prior active de facto involvement in the life of our Bar Association.  He defended the interests of advocates in several reforms involving the taxation of lawyers, but also in the larger-scale reform of the governance of Moldovan advocates.  I sincerely congratulate Alexander for this appointment.  Above all, Alexander will bring a fresh Western light to a profession on which our justice system relies heavily.  The entire team at Turcan Cazac will be here to support him in his efforts to improve the legal profession for the benefit of members and clients alike.”
